Transitions, in both asana practice and life in general, are complex and challenging times. We must navigate them with care and skill to maintain our presence of mind as we move from one place to another. In this workshop we will work on some of the most common transitions between postures, finding ways of performing them effectively, and learning modifications and variations for different stages of the practice. Some of the transitions we will work on are: Moving through Catvari (Chaturanga) to Upward Facing and Downward Facing dog, Jumping Through and Back between seated postures, Bakasana, Chakrasana (backwards somersault) and jumping back from Padmasana (Lotus).

We’ll focus on the basics of anatomy and how its structure can safely and efficiently go into, remain in, and then exit postures. In this class, Alexia will break down Surya Namaskar A & B (Sun Salutations A & B), pose by pose, and breath by breath, to get a better understanding on how to move through them correctly, and all the benefits you can get by practicing them. You can attend this workshop even if you're a beginner or new to yoga.

Alexia will guide you through the first half of the Ashtanga primary series and then go into a detailed breakdown of Surya Namaskar A and B (Sun Salutations A and B).
La respiración, es lo que marca la diferencia entre la práctica de yoga y cualquier otra forma de ejercicio. Cuando respiramos conscientemente, podemos llevar nuestros sistemas nerviosos a estar en equilibrio y esto nos hace más saludables física, mental y emocionalmente. En este taller, vamos a apredner un poco más acerca de cómo los mecanismos de la repiración afectan a nuestro cuerpo y cómo cuando practicamos asanas (posturas), es importante utilizar la respiración de formas específicas para poder aprovechar todos sus beneficios. También visitaremos algunas técnicas de Pranayama o respiración controlada que nos ayudarán a entender mejor nuestra práctica de yoga en general.
En este taller, vamos a trabajar en algunas de las transiciones más comunes entre asanas, encontrando maneras de realizarlas efectivamente y aprendiendo variaciones y modificaciones para cada etapa para así eventualmente poder avanzar de acuerdo a tu nivel.
Bridgett and Alexia will lead an Ashtanga half Primary Series class together, and will have a discussion after, on how using the breath intelligently during practice, can have an effect in our daily lives, and countless benefits for physical, mental, and emotional health.
